The core question about why cannabis must be legal, decriminalized, or prohibited in Africa has remained the single significant pivot roller-coaster in the narrative within the research and policy arena in Africa. This ongoing debate has gained enough momentum within the research, theory, policy, and practice space. The African continent represents a beacon of growth and development which attracts investments, serving as the most promising industrial hub in the immediate future.
The African Cannabis Research Institute for Policy and Development (ACRIPOD) seeks to provide a hybrid and holistic approach to practical, context-driven research that addresses needs within the cannabis policy landscape. ACRIPOD seeks to develop evidence-based programmes, policies, and guiding frameworks that address regional realities on country-specific cannabis policy needs for medical, industrial, and recreational uses.
Our response to the call to situate the African cannabis policy regime seeks to serve as the pillar between research, theory, policy, and practice to yield the maximum benefit while minimizing all associated costs through robust regulatory frameworks on the continent. ACRIPOD will provide practical and scientific insight into cannabis research, policy, and development in Africa.
Our Vision
- Educate and enhance understanding of the cannabis plant within the research, policy and practice landscapes.
- Explore the medical potential and industrial benefits of cannabis in Africa.
- Identify workable policy options that ensure regulation while providing a conducive platform in the medical field and industry.
- Dispel the negative rhetoric about cannabis while understanding its associated risk when abused.
